Timed Shut-Off of Light a Surprise

Last night I used the PhotonLight on my key case to pack the trunk. To my surprise the light went off after a short period (30 sec.?). To keep the light constant I had to keep pressing on the switch.; or, use a constant "press" Did I not read the Photon web site instructions correctly? My expectation was that once the switch is activated by pressing, the light remains on until the switch is pressed again and the light goes off.
My previous key chain light had a switch to keep the light on continously.
