Delivery timescale concerns

I ordered an I-pad 4 on 10 Dec, intending it to be a Christmas present. The promised delivery of 7 to 10 working days made it tight but achievable. I had no further communication with the company until dec 28 when an e:mail arrived stating my order had been shipped and was on its way via DHL. Tracking information on DHL indicated that they picked up the package on Dec 27 in Cincinatti USA ( 17 days since the order was placed). It eventually arrived on Dec 31. With the rather large delivery costs I expected better service. I feel communication with the customers regarding delivery and tracking within SLR is very poor. The package when it eventually arrived was well packaged and in good condition.
