Strange website payment confirmation

I often book transits by sea , land and air on the internet, but this time it didn't look as though my payment had been accepted, so I went through the whole procedure again and it was just the same. Then I checked my E-m and had two confirmations - they were very good when I rang though, and refunded one of my payments (less £1) within 10 days.
