I bought a set of Crown brushes on recommendation from Sali Hughes, a beauty writer who recommended them in her Guardian column http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/sep/09/sali-hughes-make-up-brushes
I am absolutely delighted with them. They make a huge difference to the finish of my makeup, and are very easy to use. They also feel lovely on the face - they're very high quality and they really do make putting on makeup a joy.
My one criticism would be that the brushes aren't labelled, so it's hard sometimes to know which tool you need for the job, but as they're aimed at professionals rather than amateur makeup junkies like myself I can see why they don't bother. Oh, and the leatherette casing they come in really smells horrible, but that's not really an issue as I don't store them in it anyway.
The set of around 15 brushes was about £35, which is fantastic value for money given the quality. You could pay just as much for something not nearly as good. The postage was really quick too.
In short, bite the bullet, chuck away your crap brushes (or, worse, the appalling applicators that come in the makeup itself) and treat yourself to a set.
