I thought this would be a great way to dispose of my old mobile phone in an environmentally friendly way, whilst getting some cash back to boot. My phone wasn't a high end mobile; just a bottom end smartphone, but it worked perfectly. The options on FoneBank.com's website were 'working' or 'not working'; for a 'working' model the cashback was £6ish and for a 'not working' model it was 22p (paid as an Amazon voucher). Well, as it was working (I know because I went through the phone before logging onto the site in order to delete all my personal items and reset the factory settings) I obviously selected the 'working' option. BUT it had a cracked screen, and this is where I feel the site lets its customers down.
The site recommends posting the phone by Special Delivery, which in itself costs over £6. I felt that the cashback was a bonus, and wasn't too worried if the phone went astray so opted for the cheaper 2nd class postage at £1.10. The phone arrived safely, and I received an email from FoneBank.com informing me that they had received it... followed shortly by a second email confirming that my cashback of 22p would be paid.
I was more concerned that the phone would be disposed of responsibly than the cashback, but I do feel that the site is somewhat misleading. My phone was working, and the cracked screen did not hinder it working, so I was a little surprised to only receive the minimum cashback. I feel that the phone condition options on the site should be revised to include 'broken but working', or something along those lines, in order to be more clear.
Otherwise, if you have a phone in perfect as new condition (if this is possible after a couple of years' use!) it's probably a great service.
I heard about ReglazeMyGlasses via the MoneySavingExpert website. I had an old pair of glasses that I really like, but the lenses had somehow got badly scratched so I only ever wore them as a spare pair. I wasn't sure what the numbers meant, so after some discussion with the member of staff looking at my old lenses I decided to go with the slightly-thinner-than-standard lenses. They took my credit card details and assured me that I would receive my reglazed glasses back within 10 working days. Sure enough, they arrived well within that time, and I have been wearing them like a new pair of glasses ever since.
Overall I'm delighted with the service, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
