Unable to knock on a door properly

My parcel was due for delivery on 18, 1, 2012 at the earliest of 1:33. I have stayed in waiting for this parcell all day and at about the allotted time I heard something in the letter box (presuming it was junk mail I ignored it.) About 5 minutes later I went downstairs and found a card saying 'sorry we missed you.' There is no way that if the courier had used the bell or the extremely loud knoker I would not have heard them. After discovering this I rang up the local depot and have been informed that it will cost me for redelivery tomorrow, which would normally be acceptable but not when they are trying to charge me for this mistake. I have now tried to sending in a complaint online but the postcode I entered apparently isn't valid so I cant do that either. I am a bit stuck now because I don't usually have a whole working day off too wait for a parcell which may not even announce its arrival and I certainly not paying anything extra for them to deliver at the weekend or a pacific time of day.
