I had ordered a Gibson guitar from Dawsons Belfast having viewed it in the sale at £799. The order was placed and due to the New Years holiday imminent was told it would arrive the following Thursday. I phoned on the Thursday to be told there had been a mix up with the delivery and it would arrive on Friday. I phoned again on Friday to be told it would arrive the following Tuesday. I phoned on Tuesday and was told that the guitar had now arrived but was shocked to discover it was now £1199. £400 more than when I had placed the order. Clearly, when you order at a set price, that is the price that is due, but I was told that the guitar had never been in the sale. This was not true. I had spent over two years researching guitars before settling on this one due to the sale price. I cancelled the deal.
Further searching on the internet revealed that the same guitar in other colours could be purchased so I opted for the same guitar in silver pearl. It was despatched promptly and arrived in good time, but was damaged. I contacted Dawsons online whom I had ordered from this time to be told that they could refund or replace but they had no silver pearl left. I had already opted for second best and did not want to purchase a guitar in a colour I did not want. The chap on the phone said he would investigate if he could find the original guitar colour and negotiate a price and he would get back to me within half an hour. An hour and a half passed and I phoned Dawsons, the guy I had spoken to had gone home and the new salesperson said he would work out a price match. After negotiation I was able to purchase the original guitar at £150 more than I originally ordered it for, but less than the new price I had been offered. I had to go back to the Belfast store to pick up the guitar and felt that I was ignored on arrival. The guitar was supposed to be off the racks ready for pick up but was still on display. They took it down and did not communicate with me, as if I had done something wrong. I felt very uncomfortable. The guitar itself is in perfect condition and I am pleased to have got my first choice. However, the whole experience has not been satisfactory.
