I was redirected to the HiPay site to make the payment for £45 worth of goods. I have a PayPal card (MasterCard), which I used for completing the order.
Upon submission it showed me a message stating that the transaction had been declined. I was then redirected back to the merchant's website. I thought I may have entered the wrong details so I tried it again but to no avail. The same thing happened, i.e. declined transaction -> redirected back to merchant's site.
I therefore gave up and used my HSBC Visa Debit card instead. This went through without a hitch.
I then checked my email to confirm that the order had gone through correctly. Waiting for me in my inbox were 2 emails from PayPal confirming that I had sent 2 payments of £45 each.
Therefore I've now made 3 payments of £45 (2 from PayPal, 1 from HSBC). I find it completely unacceptable that a payment solution such as HiPay can't even implement a system which correctly identifies when a payment has gone through.
I will now have to waste time reversing the 2 additional payments.
I will not be using HiPay again.
