Wanted a cheap way to get to the UK from Spain with a car. Driving to Northern France was just too much without a couple of stopovers. Having recently driven to Bilbao from Malaga I knew how long it was going to take to drive to Santander, approx 12 hours.
The overnight ferry from Santander to Portsmouth goes at 8-30 in the evening giving enough time to get there without the overnight stopovers. Then the ferry takes the strain and we dock fresh the next evening ready to finish our journey. What you save in petrol and hotels is nothing compared to the extra stress of driving to Dieppe or Calais.
