to no longer be ripped off by the banks giving appallingly poor exchange rates whilst claiming not to make charges.. The only way to find out which exchange rate they use on any one day is by phoning them. They never advertise these transfer on their websites or in the branches. Only a cash rate is displayed, if any.
Transferwise gives you a pretty good idea what you'll get and if the rate has gone up during the day or two the transfer takes, you get the better rate.
I just wish they would also would between Euro, GBP and Australian Dollars, as my daughter lives there :-)
