After writing a scathing review of Yodel on Trustpilot recently, I am very pleased to be able to write a glowing review of a rival delivery company, DPD.
Everything about the service was first-class. The delivery was quick and reliable. I especially admire the precise tracking technology. The sender emailed me with a link to DPD's website on which I could see the estimated arrival time, the present location of the driver and the number on his list that my delivery was.
As it happened, I was very busy that day and had to leave my house twice for a few hours each time. I could do so confidently because I could see where the driver was and how long I had to perform my tasks. The driver arrived fifteen minutes into the hourly block predicted. The difference between DPD and Yodel is stark - it is the difference between a company that cares about its customers and one that does not.
1st parcel: I waited in all day for a delivery that never came. 1 day of work lost. Was out next day, when they tried to deliver (a day late). Used the Yodel website to arrange delivery another day. Got an email saying it's scheduled for re-delivery. Waited in all day again. No delivery again. I had checked tracking website throughout the day. It said the parcel was out for delivery. At 8:20pm, it said the parcel had just been returned to the depot. Tried the phone system: it said they had tried to deliver and left a card. No one tried and no card was left.
Eventually it was delivered without me expecting it (I was lucky - I would have been out five minutes later). Two days of work lost for one parcel - and a very aggrieved customer.
2nd parcel: Yodel tried to deliver when I was out. I tried to rearrange on the website but the website said 'Oops! There are problems with the service'. They tried delivering again next day when I was out. Tried the website a second time and still there were problems with the service. Tried the web-chat - no one answered.
Sent a message on their contact form and asked them to hold the parcel for me at the depot (near where I was going anyway). No reply but went to the depot next day just in case someone got the message.
At the depot, a sympathetic and polite employee apologised, saying the parcel ought to be there but was on a van somewhere. He promised it would certainly, without fail, be delivered next day at about 1pm. I stayed in all day again. It was another lie. No delivery. Hence this review.
Yodel are the most mendacious, incompetent and unreliable parcel company I have ever had the back luck to rely on. I now refuse to buy from Ebuyer because they use Yodel. I recommend any other parcel service.
The answer is very simple. Yodel drivers have mobile phones (it is a condition of their employment - I saw the advert in their office in Borehamwood offering work with Yodel if you have a car and a mobile phone). All they need to do is phone ahead, maybe half-an-hour before delivery, to check if the customer is there.
I am self-employed and work locally. I can get home in half-an-hour if necessary. Instead, Yodel prefer to send their drivers to make (in this case) five pointless journeys, rather than have the common decency to make one telephone call.
Think how much time, petrol and customer annoyance this little bit of good business practise would save them! No wonder they are so hated.

Orca logic RAM is sometimes pricier than others but it usually works where cheaper options sometimes fail. I have fitted it in many of my customers' PCs. And when there is a problem (because not all memory is compatible), I have found Orca will replace or refund without quibble. Excellent service.
