Identity Guard®

Great for peace of mind

I signed up for Identity Guard back when they were running the Comcast offer (actually, I think that's still going). I decided to keep the service even after changing ISP. I've not been a victim of identity theft since I started using the service, but I have found it useful anyway.

I'm in the process of repairing my credit rating after making some bad decisions while I was a student. I'll be getting married in two year's time, and I want to make sure that my credit rating is perfect. Being able to keep an eye on my credit status is a big plus. I've actually found a couple of errors made by companies as a result of this service - nothing too serious, but it's nice to be able to make sure that everything is OK.

If you're planning on buying a house, or just want to protect your finances, this service is a must have.

Airbnb

Nice idea, but not ideal for short notice trips.

I like the idea of AirBNB, however in practice it has proven more stressful than fun for me, personally. It takes a while to co-ordinate finding a place to stay, and short notice trips don't always work out. In many cases you don't even hear back from the people you contact.

If you urgently need somewhere to stay I would recommend using a proper Hotel or commercial BNB. Save AirBNB for holiday trips planned well in advance.

Bestbuy

Great for collect at store

My nearest Best Buy is quite a long trip from my home and workplace. I like to pick items up rather than wait around for deliveries though. I regularly use the BestBuy website to arrange collect at store purchases and have never had a problem. Admittedly, sometimes they're more expensive than mail order only places but the convenience and speed makes it worth using them for urgent purchases.

I can't comment on their returns policy because I've never had a problem with anything I've bought. I guess that's a plus!

Amazon

Good selection, great prices

I use Amazon a lot to buy software, ebooks and MP3s. The prices are hard to beat and their catalog is huge. I still prefer bricks and mortar shopping for blu-ray and physical books because their shipping can be a bit slow and they have an annoying habit of splitting parcels even if you ask them not to. For downloads, though, I think Amazon has the best selection out there - and choices for DRM (steam/origin) too.
