With the cost of car ownership ever on the increase and maintenance costs increasing with the ever-more technical and computerised car systems these days, you'd think that there's at least some simple, straight forward things that haven't changed. However, even with tyre manufacture the technologies involved are quite astounding.
Changing tyres used to be a fairly simple task. You go to the vendor, they'll give you a range of price from various tyre manufacturers and you decide how much you want to pay for some rubber units. Now however, there's such a vast range of tyres to choose from, and you can do it all from the luxury of your own home - from the internet.
For someone who looks after their car, I've been hunting for some decent quality tyres (Michelin's) for the front two as they were wearing rather low. The best price I got was slightly less than from Kwik Fit, but it wasn't quite hassle free. For a very busy person, 'hassle' generally take more time than it's worth. So, I decided to make my purchase from Kwik Fit. To my surprise, there was an option for a mobile fitting service, which for two tyres or more, is a free service. I opted for the 'any time' option on the first day available (Monday), this ranges between something like 8:30 - 17:30. Naturally the vehicle will need to be available at a particular location for this duration, so I took an alternative means to go to work for this one day. I'm fortunate enough to have the luxury of other family members being available at home during the daytime.
Before mid-day, the key to the car was handed over to the 'Kwik Fit' man who turned up in his van, and shortly after returned the key on completion of the work.
On return from work, I was delighted to find two new tyres on the front of the car, and a report on the condition of the rear two.
This service certainly beats the 'turn-up and wait until your turn' service which is standard at tyre centres these days, including Kwik Fit. For anyone who really is busy, I'm sure they'd rather be at work or home during their 'wait' time, until the man from Kwik Fit turns up.
Summary - Kwik Fit internet prices are cheaper than Kwik Fit stores. Prices are fully inclusive of fitting. Significantly more convenient than 'killing time', waiting for your turn in the Kwik Fit waiting area.
Would I reccommend this to others, 'Yes, I would'.
