The double RCD socket in my daughter's house was making a clicking sound. I found the details of We Fix It in the Yellow Pages and telephoned them. I stressed that it was not an emergency and they suggested they come out the next day to keep the price down. I explained what was happening and explained that the double RCD socket needed replacing. This is a simple job and should take no more than half an hour absolute maximum time. Having been caught out before I said that I was not prepared to pay for someone to go shopping for parts and was told that the electrician would have the parts in his van. I checked the cost of a new socket online - they vary from £14 - £47 retail price. I anticipated the cost of the job to be £89 for half an hour's labour + maximum of £50 for parts totalling maximum of £140. I was shocked to be billed £322.68 and to be told that I was being charged an additional hour's labour for the electrician to go and buy the part. There is a Homebase and 2 electric part wholesalers less than 5 minutes drive away and he should have had the parts with him! I refused to pay this, having been told he would have the parts in his van and said I was prepared to pay £144.68 (the price invoiced less the sum of £180 charged for the electrician going shopping). I am now being threatened with court action for not paying the full amount.
I have now got quotes from 2 other electrician's for doing this job: one was £80 inclusive and the other was £50 inclusive. My recommendation is to avoid this company.
