Ridiculous booking system

I found this website via a friend on Google, seemed absolutely great, price wise and review wise. So I put in a booking for a medium sized van 2.5 miles away, which was perfect for our needs.

The system (as a new user) requires you to "book in" a van of your choice, then await a phone call to confirm the booking. As I'm at work, I am to assume that I will receive that call shortly and just deal with it then. However after six hours, and due to the fact we needed a van booked in for Saturday, I emailed to request a call back.

This was received within minutes, and I received a call immediately. I was then further told that my booking was no longer available as the slot had been filled, as nothing is guaranteed until its paid for. I must stress that the website explicits requests you to wait for call, you cannot process this payment as a new customer yourself.

So yes, a completely backwards setup, that seems to be of a great disadvantage to new customers. I'm sure existing customers were given the slots that were available at 11am this morning (at least 6 we could've used). Sounds like a potentially great service, but if i'm going to have to travel 7 miles to get the van (the only option I was given), then this becomes somewhat futile.
