Brought an Auto 4 second hand, had some trouble setting it up for creasing so I decided to drop them a cheeky e-mail to see if they had any troubleshooting tips. Half an hour later I had the director on the phone, who diagnosed the problem within 30 seconds and it's been running great ever since.
I'd have been surprised at this level of service if we had brought it direct from them, so considering they have never had a penny off us I am very impressed. Great machine too, and I hope I get an excuse to actually do business with them in the future.
I'm forced to deal with maplins semi-regularly simply because they are the only place on the high street where you can get a lot of things without waiting a week for the postman. I must say they have been in a rapid decline in recent years, desperately trying to become an overpriced electrical retailer rather than sticking to what they know.
Returns policy is basically "no" sales people are just that, sales men, gone are the days of them having a broad spectrum of technical expertise. Online shopping is a joke, and the selection of products (semi-conductors in particular) gets worse by the day. I used to moan about paying for the catalog, but I'd give anything to have the old maplins back.
Great if you want a £20 USB cable, awful for everything else.
Desperately needing some printing done on a Saturday I called a dozen "local" printers looking for someone who was both open and able to do the work same day, thankfully I got round to ringing these guys. Not only did they stay open while I drove to see them, they did the work on the spot to a much higher quality than I expected, and then didn't even charge me (apparently a dozen sheets of paper isn't worth invoicing, even if I have occupied several hours of their weekend)
Couldn't hope for a nicer group of guys, I recommend them to anyone who asks (and several who don't)
