Yet again, dealing with Shiply has meant that I have had a car transported at less than half the price quoted either by the person selling or the person receiving it. You just hold on for a while until the lowest quote comes in, or until a firm that quotes lowers its quote, check the feedback, accept the quote and it's done!
There is a special section for ebay purchases so the transporter knows what he's quoting for. Just enter the ebay number and all the details are recorded.
This is a brilliant idea.
My 11 year-old son used his godfather's present of a W.H. Smith gift card to order a white Parker Pen for school on 15 December 2012. By the time the new term was well underway on 13 January, he bought a pen elsewhere and asked me to cancel the order. My request was 'not allowed'. The 'terms and conditions' tell me that: 'If we can't supply your order within 60 days, we will cancel the order.' So, although the site has a 'cancel this order' button - the customer can't. Only W.H. Smith can.
If a child places an order, the T & Cs state that W.H. Smith 'may seek compensation from you where you are not 18 and we have suffered financial loss as a consequence' and 'when you place an order this means you are aware of any age restrictions on the products and agree that you are old enough to buy them'. All this is in spite of children not being legally responsible for a contract.
I had seen W.H. Smith as a friendly High Street presence and they may well be so. Their web site is as unfriendly as can be. The threatening nature of the admonition to children is just awful. I shall not be visiting the site again.
I ordered a Fontana Arte Yumi lamp on October 15 2012. It is for my office so I paid in euro on my business account. When the promised two week delivery was exceeded, I contacted them. The call took some time to connect and was an 087 number. I was told that one was being specially made for me and was given another delivery date. When this was exceeded, I requested a refund. I was told that it was not possible to have a refund as payment had been made from a business account, not a personal account and that a business-to-business contract could not be broken.
I was also told that the light had been received by Ambientedirect, but was damaged and 'you wouldn't want to receive a damaged item, would you?'
I researched the legal situation under German law and found it to be not as stated. I was then told that there must be a production problem at Fontana Arte as they weren't coming through. When I referred to the lamp that 'was being specally produced' and the one that had been 'received damaged', the official I was speaking to realised that the pretence could not be kept up and 'couldn't imagine where these stories had come from.'
I negotiated a written undertaking that there would be a full refund if the lamp did not reach me by the end of February 2013 and an immediate 10% repayment because of the delay.
The lamp arrived today (10 January 2013). It was very well packed on a huge wooden pallet and was in perfect condition.
So 'Alls Well That Ends Well', but I had to stand up for myself with them and deal with being told untruths - not something I am used to doing when I am spending nearly £2000. None of the promised call backs was received and I had to call several times to achieve a resolution. For this reason I shall not buy from them again.
All the local pet shops told me Hi-Life kitten food in foil pouches (which my kitten far prefers to any others) was out-of-production, so I tried the web.
Two days later my order arrived and it was no more expensive than going to a shop.
A very satisfied kitten and owner.
I can leave it until the last moment until ordering replacements as I know Printerland will deliver the goods the next day without fail.
Their prices are competeitive and spares are easy to order on the web site as a section is devoted to each printer model number.
I no longer bother to scour the internet to look for cheaper prices.
