I shopped for return flights for myself, my wife and my daughter. Repeatedly it wouldn't allow me to get past the page where you enter passenger details. I tried to set up an opodo account and see if that made any difference, but it didn't. I tried their online help, but the other person said hello and then wouldn't respond to my questions. I tried 3 browsers on my PC and then another PC thinking it might be security settings or something, but in the end I had to call them up. The lady at opodo tried to book on their internal site and found the same problem. She said it might be the seats are no longer available. So she tried on the actual airline booking system. She got the flights and took my payment details. I received the flight booking details by email. Fantastic, the flights are booked.... I received a fraud alert call from my credit card company asking if I had made the payment, as the total was for £2250. I confirmed that I had made the purchase.
Next morning, calls from Opodo that they don't have my address for billing, so I gave it to them.
A few hours later in the afternoon I receive a call from Opodo saying that there was a security issue with my card yesterday, so the payment wasn't taken (Despite my card company telling me a payment was taken). She claims the airline now refuse to honour the flights and I will have to pay another £175. Ok, that's still a reasonable price and comparable with other sites. She goes off to take the extra payment. She comes back a couple of minutes later. She says she didn't realise it was for 3 people, so that will be another £175 each. that's over £500 extra.... I've already paid over £2200!! Do I want to pay the extra or do a search and let them know by close of business whether to continue with the booking, or cancel? I opt to search again.
I get online and search the usual sites, expedia, lastminute, ebookers and just to check, Opodo. Guess what, Opodo still have the same flights on their site for the cheaper price from the day before that the airline apparently won't honour. I find the flights with Lastminute.com for roughly the same price and book with them. Receive the confirmation within about 15 minutes. I then call Opodo and ask them to cancel.
I have used Opodo in the past to book flights, but this experience has made me decide not to use them again in the future. I would advise others not to use them. Try Lastminuter.com, Expedia or eBookers. They have basically advertised flights that you can't book. Won't honour their advertised prices and even when you have actually paid for the flights, blatantly lie to you and try and get more money from you.
