Only after placing an order was I informed there was no stock of the item

I find it deceitful for a seller to allow an order to be placed, knowing the item is not in stock. To then have to telephone a customer to inform them of this seems to me to be an indication of a poorly managed business and of wasteful staff resource.

Hello Garry,

Thank you for your review. Apologies your item was found to be sold out when you placed your order. We are different to a lot of retailers in that we do not take payment at the point of order. We have around 10,000 products on the website and the stock of these is monitored regularly but very occasionally items do sell out before we can update the website and this is why we operate this process. On the very rare occasion an item is not available we call our customers immediately to advise of the issue and delay and, where possible, offer a viable alternative. At this point, as you decided to do, you can either hold the item on back order (only taking payment when stock arrives to ourselves) or swap to an alternative or cancel with no effect to your card. This is not deceitful as we do not knowingly show items as in stock when we know they have sold out. This proactive approach to stock issues on the very few occasions they occur ensures our business is well managed and staff are used wisely to contact and discuss options and issues with customers rather than them just receiving a generic automated customer response.
