It's a very complete website that I found really intuitive and easy to use when I tried to find a place to stay during my travels. No messy pop-ups, full of all the information I need, and cleanly organized. I was so impressed that I'm making a point of contributing to the website with my own reviews and pictures to help others as well.
I used HostelBookers to book two hostel stays in Portugal, where I had never been before. I thought it was going to be a challenge to find something along my likes (I tend to be demanding), but the website made it really easy to browse through my options. It has tons of criteria you can use to narrow your search, and once you've found a few you're considering, you have pictures, reviews, and a full description of the hostel that doesn't feel like it was typed by some corporate donkey who's never been there (!).
To be honest, one of the hostels that I chose through HostelBookers ended up being a dud. I really regret staying there and actually shortened my stay in Lagos because of it. But it doesn't affect my review of the website on a whole. I think that if I had taken more time to make a decision, I think I would have seen the red flags on the website as well, but I was in too much of a rush. In that regard if you take a minute you can really get informed about the positive and negative of where you're going to stay.
