We booked a nice looking one bedroom apartment (This one: https://www.9flats.com/places/92723-apartment-new_york-rose_hl). Everything went fine, even though we were a bit unhappy with them taking the FULL FEE upfront, at the time of booking, along with a no-cancellation policy. We reached NYC in June 2013 and as we entered the apartment we realised to our absolute horror, that we had been scammed. The apartment looks NOTHING like the pictures - the furniture is dirty, old, and tattered. The bathroom and kitchenette were disgusting and filthy. We had been charged a $90 cleaning fee but it was clear that the place hadn't been cleaned for months. The bedding and towels was torn and stained. The whole building stank of the restaurant downstairs. And we were paying $250 a night for this! Our calls to the "property manager" were met with uncouth rudeness, and he refused to come over in response to our complaints. We left the property immediately and booked ourselves into a hotel. On our return, we had to negotiate with 9flats for over 3 weeks before our money was finally refunded - and this, only after we threatened to complain because we found that the property was actually illegal! Vincent Scott is the owner of this property and several others around New York. Beware this man and beware booking on 9flats.com, as even though we finally have our money back, 9flats.com is STILL listing this property as well as others run by him, all of which are illegal. We will NEVER use this site again.
