I arranged for Tyres on the Drive to come and replace a flat tyre as well as the other front tyre so that they matched in terms of tread depth. Not the most expensive tyres, but the best that I could afford on a limited self-employed income (I am a home-based childcarer, so car safety is of paramount importance to me).
The fitter was very efficient leaving me initially quite impressed. Reversed car off road at side of my house and onto driveway (as the technician had been unable to get his van through an archway leading to my drive).
Some six hours later came to drive the car (with my own two children on board) only to find that within 1/4 mile of leaving my house, there was a knocking noise and the steering went...a flat tyre, but not only this the tyre had become detached from the rim. The car was recovered back home and I then spent the next day making phone calls. Unfortunately it seems the guarantee below...
4. Are my tyres fully guaranteed?
Yes, we only fit new tyres and all new tyres are guaranteed by the manufacturer against manufacturer’s defects. This guarantee will not cover punctures or any other accidental damage that is not a defect in the construction of the tyre. If you have any problems contact us to discuss the issues.
...did not apply to my tyre. even though two separate recovery mechanics today stated that the problem was with the valve core which seemed to have disappeared, along with the adaptor cap (and I have this in writing).
It seems that once the car was in motion, the inside of the valve just blew itself out.
All I can say is that I am glad the car was only travelling at maximum 30mph and not any faster when the tyre failed.
Unfortunately I still had to pay a 'discounted' fee for the replaced tyre, which is not mentioned on the company's website.
