I bought a brand new Smeg washine machine (WDI12C7) from AO in mid November 2013. Went for a better spec to avoid maintenance problems and issues we had with our last model (Ignis). Machine was delivered bang on time by AO, have no fault with them. On 4th Jan my wife found that she could not set the program for the machine, as the electronic timer had 'stuck'. Called Smeg on Monday (no out of hours service) and they said they would have an engineer call. He called that afternoon (creditable) and agreed that it needed a new timer. He had no parts so it would have to be ordered. Should arrive by 'end of the week'. Part was put on order and I checked with Smeg on 8th about delivery of the part. Was told it would be Tuesday 14th. No word from the engineer so e-mailed Smeg again on 15th to ask what was the position - 'should be there early next week'. Next day I called Smeg spares (not part of Smeg, but subcontracted to take the flak) and a lady called Barbara confirmed that the part should be delivered to the engineer on Friday. Friday came and went, as did Monday (Elizabeth left a message to say that the part had been delivered, I called engineer and he said he called Smeg who said it would not be here until Tues/Wed 22/23rd.)
Finally I write this on Tues 21st. The part was delivered on Friday 17th, I have no idea why the engineer told me otherwise. He is due to appear this afternoon to fit the part that must have come here by camel, it has taken so long.
There is no communication between Smeg UK, Smeg Spares and their engineers. You will be passed around and fobbed off with various excuses and outright flannel. If anything goes wrong with your machine under warranty, book yourself in for a long wait for a repair. Remember to save your receipts for the laundrette and bill them to Smeg! I will never buy this brand again.
