I went in to Sigma to buy a new headset for my 10 year old Pinarello winter bike. Sigma didn't have a huge selection in stock in the shop but did at their warehouse. Sold me a Chris King 1 inch headset and matched the best price they could find on-line (which resulted in a c28% saving from Sigma's published price) and they could get the headset in-store within 24 hours. Whilst I was in the store I asked them to check my rear brake which was a little sticky. Turned out the steel spring had worn and I required a replacement rear caliper. Sigma didn't have a long-drop caliper in stock, but did have a suitable one on a display bike, which they were happy to remove from the display bike and fit on my Pinarello.
I returned 24 hours later (once the Chris King headset was in store) and Sigma fitted the headset, new rear calpier and Swiss Stop replacement pads, whilst I waited, free of charge.
They gave me good advice, tried hard to find a solution to a number of problems and fitted the parts quickly and professionally.
The one thing that was missing was the tendency to high-handedness and arrogance that afflicts some of the staff on occasions. Even for an experienced cyclist, who usually knows what he wants and who is happy to give most maintenance items a go himself, the staff can appear to be a little dismissive and haughty. This, however, was a very pleasant customer experience.
