Do not use City Link.
On the Wednesday 3rd of October City Link collected a parcel containing a camera lens I had sold on eBay to take to Bedford on a next day delivery. I checked the tracking on the 4th and it stated the parcel was at Milton Keynes depot and had been put on a van at 06.01 for delivery that day. I checked tracking again on Saturday and was concerned that it was not showing that the delivery had been made. I contacted the buyer who confirmed the lens had not arrived. On Monday 8th I tried to phone Milton Keynes and got a recorded message stating they were busy and I was in a queue, after waiting for 20 minutes I gave up and emailed a complaint regarding the none delivery. I got an automated message back on the 9th stating someone would contact me soon. On the 10th I got an email from customer relations to say they had searched the depot and couldn’t find the parcel and they were closing the case and that I would have to claim back any necessary charges. I emailed back and said I did not want the case closing and they should check with the van driver who according to the tracking had the parcel in his van. I got an email back to say the case was closed.
Unfortunately I decided not to take out any insurance and the lens which I sold for £220 was only covered for £50, and after a lot of form filling, proof of value and emails etc. I have given up and lost out; I am a pensioner and can’t do with the hassle.
About 2 weeks later I was checking on eBay, and because of the type of lens filter I had included in my sale to help the lens sell I spotted the same lens and filter listed by a seller in BEDFORD. I am 100% certain it was my lens. I couldn’t get any help from eBay so I sent a copy of my eBay listing together with the BEDFORD listing, the original invoice from when I purchased the lens, with serial numbers and a description of tiny identifying marks on the lens to the Police in Bedford. I got a phone call back that they thought it was a civil matter and would not investigate. They also said that when City Link collected the parcel they had entered into a contract and were responsible for the full value of the package. I informed City Link about my findings and got the same email back. Case closed.
In conclusion all I can say is that parcels do not disappear they are taken and I will never use City Link again. It makes you wonder how many other parcels disappear at the Milton Keynes depot. Checking the tracking six weeks later it still states the parcel is out for delivery on the 4th October.
